Synonyms for said

I said you said he said she said we said they said....

Blegh.

Sometimes you need the word, but in a narrative essay, try to limit the amount of 'said'-s you have. Because it becomes B-O-R-I-N-G when you have multiple saids, often within the same few paragraphs.
